SCIENTIFIC NAME: Eos bornea The red lory is the most common parrot on Buru and is entirely red on its upper and under parts, apart from blue undertail-coverts with blue and black wing-markings. It shows more red than any other member of the Eos group. The red lory is commonly found in forested coastal areas of their principle range islands, and its range overlaps the blue-streaked lory and the blue-eared lory. Like other parrot-like birds, it’s monogamous and congregates in large flocks. The noisy and conspicuous lory occurs in large groups in plantations near settlements. Flocks of up to 50 or more have been seen gathering to feed. Some nocturnal activity has also been noted. The red lory’s world population is greater than one million, and it is a commonly traded species.
