Green Cheeked Conure Green Cheeked Conure

SCIENTIFIC NAME:  Pyrrhura molinae

The green cheeked conure is a tiny parrot-like bird also known as the Argentine Conure, Crimson-tailed Conure, Santa Cruz Conure, and Yellow-sided Conure. It’s mainly green with a brown head, long maroon tail and maroon patch on its belly.
The yellow-sided conure from southwest Brazil was formerly treated as a separate species than the green cheeked conure but it’s now judged to be a mutation of the race.

The green cheeked conure is gregarious (at least outside breeding season), generally in flocks of 10-20, sometimes many more. The bird nests in hollow trees and lays eggs in February. Both parents help raise chicks. Like most parrots, these birds are monogamous and will stay with their first love for the rest of their lives.
